Our class is participating in a project with 24 other schools to create and send Holiday Greeting Cards. We found the project online on “Projects by Jen”. On Thursday, we looked at some of my old cards and identified key features of a greeting card. There is a picture on the front, a greeting message inside and then a personal message and a salutation. Each student created a card, decided on a greeting and included a personal message in their card. We also brainstormed a message together that would explain about us and a little about our community. We put this on the back of each card.

We hope our new friends will enjoy our cards. Everyone worked hard on them and had fun.

Grade One wrote a Book Review together of this new book by Nick Bland.

The Very Cranky Bear

A zebra, a lion, a moose and a sheep want to play in the den of a bear.  The bear woke up and roared at them to get out.  The bear was very cranky. It made us think about how cranky we get when we are tired.  We liked it when the animals dressed up the bear.  The bear was even more cranky because he needed to sleep.  Read the story to find out what the sheep does.  She is very thoughtful but it is funny what she does.  Kids who like animals and funny books will like this story.

Sometimes we write about things we did outside of school. These entries were written by students. This is their original work. These students can write independently using the sounds their know to spell words. They can also use the resources in the classroom to help them spell, such as the word wall. We will continue to share other student writing in our blog.
