Our class has been reading Folk Tales. One of our first ones was Little Red Hen. We learned about storyboard and made one together. We used it a few times to retell Little Red Hen. We also made our own picture story maps. Check out our work and our voicethread. We made our own version of Little Red Hen.

What Kind of Car is This?

Grade One describes cars in this Voicethread. We found copyright friendly photos of cars on Flickr using the group Creative Commons. There are many photos available here to use for projects. We just needed to give credit to the person who took the photo.

We are learning to use adjectives – words that describe – like red, blue, shiny, pretty, big, little, etc.

The children speak both French and English at our school. So for this project they used both languages to describe the cars. These first graders are quite amazing.

Our ABC Book

We’ve been working on an ABC book about our school and it is ready to share. First, we made an ABC chart and brainstormed places around our school that began with the different letters. Then we talked about some different features of Photographs – like a “bug’s eye” view and a “bird’s eye” view (perspective) and zoom in and out. Can you tell which photo was taken from a “bird’s eye” view? Thanks to our janitor for taking that picture. We took digital pictures all around the school and then uploaded them to Voicethread. We then took turns adding our voice.

Yeah! All the children’s hard work has finally paid off. Our voicethreads are finished and ready to share. We read lots of Folk Tales. Then the students got into groups and researched real animals. They worked together in groups of 3 gathering information. Then they wrote out their notes, made decisions as to who would say what. Enjoy listening. People are welcome to leave a comment on the voicethread. In order to do this you can either record your voice or type a message. When you click on comment/record you will be asked to set up/create a free voicethread account.
