Yesterday Educazoo came to our school. Isabelle brought many animals. It was so much fun to see and touch the animals. We saw a box turtle, a soft chinchilla, a corn snake, a blue-tongued skink (a lizard), a flying green tree frog, a dancing ferret, and a baby chameleon. Catherine loved all the animals. Victoria thought Isabelle was really nice. Branden liked the box turtle. Hunter liked when he got to pet the chinchilla. It was so soft. Anthony liked when the ferret did the belly dance. It was so funny. William liked touching the chinchilla, too. Thomas liked having the snake around his neck. Tyler liked the turtle.

We learned a lot about the animals, too. Did you know that a chameleon only has 4 colors? If blue is not one of its colors when he is on something blue he won’t turn blue. The flying green tree frog uses its green color as camouflage to help it stay safe. It is nocturnal. This means that he sleeps during the day and is active at night.

Enjoy watching our video.

We have been studying about animals and their babies in Grade One. We will continue learning about animals and we will do animal projects this term. To celebrate what we’ve learned so far we are very excited to have Educazoo come to visit us this week. The animator will bring live animals into our classroom for us to see and possibly even hold.

We will begin a new “Let’s Find Out About Science” book called, “Big Tracks, Little Tracks” this week.

Grade One has been reading information books about animals. Today we talked about the difference between information books and stories. Information books teach us about things and give us information. Sometimes they have a table of contents. Stories have characters and take place somewhere. They have a beginning, middle and end. Good stories have a problem that needs to be solved. We looked at many books from the front cover and inside too and sorted them into the two groups.

In Art we drew lions. Take a look at our lion slideshow.

We came to school today after a 3 day weekend. We were happy and surprised to see that the caterpillars had made their button of silk and were hanging upside down in their cups. We had to take the lid off the cup but when we did this it was hard to do because there was a web inside. We taped the lids to the side of the tank. Now we have 14 chrysalis’ hanging on the sides of our tank. We have to wait and wait and wait until the shells start to crack. Then beautiful Painted Lady butterflies will come out. We will be so happy.
