Snowmen and Reading Buddies

December 9, 2012 · 6 Comments · Uncategorized

It is beginning to get cold in Quebec and we are all hoping for some snow. The weatherman says we could get a snowstorm tonight.  In anticipation of what is coming we painted some snowmen last week.  Each child made a template by cutting out 3 circles from card stock.  Then we used cut up pieces of sponge to sponge paint a white snowman.  We left that to dry and on another day we decorated our snowmen with color – hat, buttons, face, etc.  It was lots of fun.  We used acrylic paint on construction paper.

What activity do you like to do in the snow?

Here is a fun activity to practice vowel sounds and help with reading.  It is called Starfall.  You can click on the picture below to go to the website.   Check out each of the sites but the vowel site is the second one.  Click on Learn to Read for vowel practice.

We have reading buddies with Ms. Vasilious’ Grade 6 each week.  Last week we used laptops so Grade 1 could go on Starfall and practice vowel sounds.  It was fun for all.

    Dear Mrs Lynch and children,

Wow what wonderful snowmen you all painted I just loved them all.

I think having a reading buddy is a super. It would make you feel so special to have this special person all to yourself and be able to read to each other.

I am pretty sure at BB’s school that have a buddy system in place but only for the grade preps.
BB is still at school and has two weeks until she finishes up. She has been attending heaps of end of the year Christmas parties and will be doing this right up to her very last day.

BB did post you a Christmas card Mrs Lynch do hope you receive it soon.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas filled with heaps of joy and fun.

    Merry Christmas.

From your biggest fan down under,
    AA :)

To Carol Ann’s Mom and Dad,
Thanks so much for leaving a comment on our blog. Things got a bit busy before the holiday so I am sorry I didn’t reply sooner. I love having parents visit and leave us messages. I think the snowmen did the trick. We got lots of snow this week. I hope Carol Ann is having some fun in it this week. We went out for a walk yesterday. It was just beautiful.
      Happy New Year!
