Terry Fox Run

September 30, 2012 · 5 Comments · Uncategorized

We had our annual Terry Fox Run this past Thursday morning. Our school remembers Terry Fox (1958-1981) each fall by doing a run to raise money for Cancer Research. Terry Fox was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer research activist. In 1980 after having a leg amputated, he began a run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to quit his efforts it resulted in a lasting worldwide legacy. Each year over 60 countries participate in a day long event to raise money for cancer research. Check out this youtube video showing clips of Terry running and pursuing his dream to do his part find a cure for cancer.

Check for an update later in the week with how much our grade one class raised for Terry Fox.

    Dear Mrs Lynch and children,

Well done in taking part in this wonderful heart felt run for such an amazing person. It was so amazed the first time I read about Terry Fox, as it is still today for every time I think of him.

I really feel you should all deserve a high five for your efforts. Your video of you all was great, and I loved the fact also that you all had huge smiles on your faces. This shows me that you all were all very keen to take part in the wonderful heart moving event. :)

Thank you for sharing your amazing fun run in the name of Terry Fox what an inspiration and inspiring post Mrs Lynch. It really has moved me.

From your number1 fan down under,
    AA :)

      Dear AA,
Thanks for your encouragement and kind comment. We had a lot of fun that day running for Terry Fox.

As you can tell it is starting to get cooler here. We are starting to wear our jackets. The leaves are changing color. Soon they will be falling and I’ll have lots of leaves to rake in my yard.

It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. Do you celebrate a Fall Harvest? I miss going home to the U.S. for Thanksgiving in November. It’s difficult to take the time off in November so I haven’t gone to Boston for Thanksgiving for a few years now. Once I retire I plan to start up that tradition again.

      Have a nice weekend.
      from your friends,

    Hello,

It is true, Terry was am amazing person. I actually remember seeing him run in the evening news when I was a young. We sang St Elmo’s fire ( man in motion) constantly for Terry and until this day I can’t hear that song without remembering him. It’s heart warming to see his memory being passed from generation to generation. It was a great day for the kids to run in and I’m glad to see that they had a good time.

      Dear Dee,
Thanks so much for your comment. I love this Fall tradition, too. I always look forward to this run every year.

    Hello again,

I need to correct myself. It was actually Rick Hansen for the “man in motion” song. He was inspired by Terry Fox. Sorry for the mix up, but both are inspiring people.
