School’s Out for the Summer

June 28, 2012 · 4 Comments · Uncategorized

Although school is out for the summer I still have a few more things to share. Read below to hear about our last week of school. I also got an awesome surprise in the mail this past Tuesday, the 26th of June (kids have already finished). I found a package in my mailbox from Kenya. Do you remember we were doing a Flat Stanley project? We had made our own Flat Me(s) and sent them off to Kenya. What came in the mail were precious photos of Kenyan children holding our Flat Stanleys. Check back later and hopefully I will be able to post some of these pictures.

Our last day of school was last Friday, June 22nd.  Our class walked to a local park to play and have a picnic.  It was a really hot day but we had lots of shade where we went and so stayed fairly cool.  Watch the slideshow below to see our fun. Thanks to all the parents who helped out. It was really appreciated.

The music in our slideshow was from Music Class with Mrs. Urbanowicz this past week.  Don’t we have beautiful voices?

Last week we also had a chance to see a Steel Pan band perform for us.  We learned that the steel drum started in Trinidad, the southern most island in the Caribbean. It started before World War II because the island people loved music but couldn’t afford instruments. They took oil drums and cut them to different sizes. Then with a some kind of hammer they made the bottoms of the drums concave. There are 4 different drums – base, alto, tenor, and soprano. Each one makes different sounds. It was really fun because each class got to watch them on our own and so whoever wanted to got a chance to play on the steel drums. Watch the video below and listen to the awesome music. At the end you can see us trying our hand at the drums, too. I think some of us may turn out to be musicians!

To all my students have a fun and safe summer.  Good luck in grade 3.  You are ready!

To all the parents of my students – thanks for your loyal support these past two years.  You were awesome.  Enjoy your summer!

To all our blogging friends – thanks for visiting us and sharing in our learning.

Dear Mrs Lynch & Room 102,
That looked like a good way to end your term, and I thought your singing was beautiful – what a good song to go with your lovely pictures of your end of term picnic.
I shall look forward to seeing your Flat Stanley pictures as we have also been doing our own Flat Stanley project and have really enjoyed following the journeys of our flat friends around the globe. You can see some of our Flat Stanley exploits on our blog!
I hope you are by now relaxing into and enjoying your summer vacation – we will look forward to seeing more of your adventures in the new school year.

    Dear Mrs Lynch and children,

So this is it I cannot believe that you all will be in grade three. Some how I really do feel like you said Mrs Lynch that they are ready for this next chapter of schooling.

I would like to thank you Mrs Lynch and the children for another wonderful year of learning, reading and growing with you all.
Mrs Lynch I really hope one day that we can meet so that I can thank you in person. You are an amazing teacher and friend.

Enjoy your summer and keep safe. For right here down under it is rather cold and wet and to make things worse I have a head cold. :(

But writing on your blog makes me feel better.
BB has just started her two weeks of holidays and is already out and about visiting the local markets with her dad and then off to visit her cousin Kayla.

    Enjoy!
    From your number 1# fan,

    Hi Mrs Lynch,

It really sadden me that the sch0ol year came to an end. I think you are an excellent teacher and I am very happy that Kayliya had you as a teacher for the last two years. I especially loved to be able to see what she has learned and experienced throughout the year from your blog. I know you put in a lot of time to be able to to do all this. My only wish is that my other daughter will be lucky enough to have you when she returns for the next year. *fingers crossed* She is more patient, so it will be a different experience. :)

I wanted to thank you for all you have done and have a wonderful summer!
