The three Grade 2 classes went on a field trip to Montreal last week to visit Les Musees Des Beaux Arts.
Watch the slideshow below to see a bit of what we experienced.
When we got to the museum we were early so we had a chance to eat our snack. Then our first activity was an introductory tour of the museum with a hands on activity of creating our own mini books of art. Each class split into two groups and had an Educator from the museum to lead us. We learned about the many collections in the museum. The leaders were impressed that our students knew so much about art. We knew that there were portraits, landscapes, still life, masks, sculptures and photos in the museum. There are also decorative arts like furniture, plates, and jewelry. We learned that Contemporary art is art of today. In our mini book we decorated our name, then chose either landscape, portrait or still life and created our own. For our third piece we went downstairs where they had modern and contemporary art. We created a pop up piece of art.
Then we went back to the lunch room and ate our lunch. After lunch we had guided tour of the musuem. Again, each class was split in two for the tour. The tours were different but in my tour our guide took us to a room that had a Picasso painting . My students loved it. We were also so excited to notice a stick figure sculpture by Alberto Giacometti in the same room. Then we went to a room that had paintings of Napeoleon. We learned that Napoleon was a famous emperor of France. You can identify him in the paintings as he is the only one that wore his hat from side to side and has a white horse.
Back at school we had a chance to see everyone’s mini book.

Hello Room 2,
I think it is a great idea to go to a museum for a field trip. In fact my class and I went to a museum last year for a field trip. Our museum in the Comox Valley is not like the museum you went to because it does not have any art but it does have fossils.
I think it is a dinosaur museum.
Do you think it is a dinosaur museum?
Tell me if you think it is a dinosaur museum.
From, Ayla.
Dear Ayla,
Thanks for you nice comment. I wish we had a dinosaur museum in Montreal. The students would love that as learning about dinosaurs is very popular here. It does sound like a dinosaur museum.

Dear Mrs Lynch and children,
Wow I really love this post! I really enjoyed reading and not forgetting watching your wonderful amimoto slide show at the Museum of Fine Arts.
What amazing pieces of art work you all did I loved them all. From the looks on your faces you were having a great time.
I even loved that fact that one of parents did a beautiful cut and paste art piece. Well done!
The children here don’t get the chance to go to a Museum of Fine Arts, which I really wish they could.
Once again thank you so much Mrs Lynch for an awesome post!
From your #1 fan down under,
AA
Dear Mrs Lynch and children,
I just love your artistic post.
I hope you all had a lovely time visiting the Museum. My favourite Museum is the Melbourne Museum because there is interesting facts about dinosaurs and the Human Body.
I just love your Animoto it is awesome.
The Museum looked like a lot of fun, whats even better you were able to make you very own personal art work too.
I have not been to an Art Museum before but maybe one day I will.
From your friend,
BB.
Dear AA and BB,
Thanks for your awesome comments. You are lucky to have a dinosaur museum near you. I know that Lia would love to visit a dinosaur museum. It is very special to be able to share our experiences with you.

What a fabulous opportunity for your class to visit an Art Museum – it looked just wonderful! You are obviously working really hard to create an appreciation for great art work and artists – so important! Well done.

Hi,
The trip to the museum was great! As one of the lucky volunteers, I got to enjoy first hand experience of all the many different types of art works they had for display. I am not a very artistic person, but I now have a more understanding and appreciation for art. I especially liked to hear about the story behind the art work themselves. I think that it’s also great that children are able to be exposed to art at such a young age. I have seen some of the children’s drawings and you can get a sense of who could become a really good artist. I’d like to mention that I learned that there are actually 3 art buildings with over 40 000 work of arts for anyone who is interested in having visit.

Hello classe, I just wanted to say how wonderful it was for me to accompany you on this field trip. I was impressed with my group being so well behaved and interested in every thing there was to see. This was the best field trip ever. Lydia’s Mom
Dear Dee and Evangeline,
