Grade 1 has been busy reading ABC books and practicing our beginning sounds. We immersed ourselves in all kinds of ABC books. We decided we wanted to make our own Animal ABC book. We went through the alphabet and brainstormed different animals that began with each letter /sound. We talked about what a page in a ABC book would look like.
- The image should be big so it can be seen well.
- The letters need to be big also so they can be read easily.
- There should be a space between words.
- We also identified that outlining our picture in black would help to make it “pop” out.
In partners we practiced making pictures of our animals and writing their name. Then we made a plan of who would do what animal.
Then next step was to share our project with our family and friends. We made a Voice Thread that you can view below.

They will ask for your name and an email address. Then click on “register”. They will ask you if you want to upload a picture . You do not need to do this but you can. They will give you a default picture as an avatar. You will then see a comment button in the center at the bottom of our voicethread. Click on it to comment, then choose whether you want to comment using your microphone or type in a comment. You can even comment by phone or viedo. It will be worthwihile to sign up for an account as we will be creating lots of voice threads and we love to hear what you have to say.

I loved hearing each and everyone of you do the letter and then tell me in your finest voice what the animal was.
I must say what a wonderful selection of animals you all came up with, as I really don’t think I could have came up with some many animals.
