Morning Routine

As part of our morning calendar activities we are still counting the days that we are in school. Today was the 145th day of school. Each day we take turns representing this number with place value pictures. We draw pictures of money that adds up to this number, too. This daily practice helps the students to understand big numbers. We also practice counting by 5s and 10s up to the number.

What great idea. Iam going to start doing this with my crew. The coins we use would be very different to yours and we would have to talk about rounding up and down because we don’t have any coins smaller than 5c.
