Grade One has been reading information books about animals. Today we talked about the difference between information books and stories. Information books teach us about things and give us information. Sometimes they have a table of contents. Stories have characters and take place somewhere. They have a beginning, middle and end. Good stories have a problem that needs to be solved. We looked at many books from the front cover and inside too and sorted them into the two groups.
In Art we drew lions. Take a look at our lion slideshow.

Hi Room102
I had a really long look through your reading links today. They are great and I am going to attach them to my blog too. Thanks for the ideas. I really like the Browser Books. We will use them in our class on Monday.
Most of the kids in Room 13 like information books the best. We are really into animals ,but we are facinated with mini-beasts and keep lots of different kinds in our classroom. At the moment we have Darkling beetles, tadploes and snails! We were hoping that the tadpoles would turn into frogs before our school holidays started, but they grow faster in warm weather and our air conditioner is on all the time because it is Summer in Australia, so the room is not warm enough. They are still cool to watch.
